OVERVIEW

An official event of the Ontario Chess Association and an official qualifier event for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships the OYCC is the most prestigious junior individual event in Ontario. Section winners are declared Ontario’s Junior Champions for the year 2024.

All players must submit the online registration form by no later than May 30, 2024.

Players must be born after Jan 1, 2006

SECTIONS

U8 Open / U8 Girls

U10 Open / U10 Girls

U12 Open / U12 Girls

U14 Open / U14 Girls

U16 Open / U16 Girls

U18 Open / U18 Girls

Depending on registration numbers. Sections may be combined

FORMAT

Regular Swiss; 0-point Requested Byes.

TIME CONTROL & NOTATION

G/45 min + 30 sec increment

Recording the moves is mandatory throughout the game.

ROUND TIMES

Saturday, June 1

Round 1: 11:00 am

Round 2: 14:00 pm

Round 3: 17:00 pm

Sunday, June 2

Round 4: 11:00 am

Round 5: 14:00 pm

Closing Ceremony

PRIZES

The top three finishers in each section shall be awarded medals.

QUALIFICATION

Players with a score of at least 50% will be qualified to compete in the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.

BURSARIES

Section winners receive a $300 bursary. If they don’t participate in the CYCC the bursary is offered to the next person in the final standings.

TIEBREAKERS

1 – Head-to-Head

2 – Cumulative/Progressive Score

3 – Sonneborn-Berger

4 – Most Wins

5 – Most Games with Black.

ENTRY FEE

– Early Bird (prior to May 25): $120

– Late (after May 25): $130

PAYMENT METHOD

By eTransfer to [email protected] with the player’s full name mentioned as a note. Please, make the payment by May 30, 2024, 11:59 pm. No cash on site.

REFUNDS

– $120 back if you notify us of your withdrawal by May 20, 11:59 p.m.,

– $60 back if you notify us of your withdrawal by May 25, 11:59 p.m.

– No refund after May 25.
